When choosing the floor for your new project there's many different things to consider. Most people think about things such as durability, wear, colour, thickness, etc. The one thing we find that gets overlooked the most is the type of CORE used.

Engineered hardwood comes in 2 types of construction. The first type being PLYWOOD CORE, and the second being SOLID CORE. Plywood core construction is manufactured by gluing multiple thin layers of plywood together to form the core that sits in between the veneer layer and the base layer. The majority of engineered floors sold in Canadian retail stores have this type of construction.

Next we have SOLID Core construction. You'll typically find this type of construction in more expensive product lines. Its constructed with a top veneer layer followed by a solid center core and finished with a base layer. Although a solid core does typically cost more money, it tends to be stronger, and have less crackling in the floor. If your budget allows for a solid core we highly recommend going that route!

Whether your on the hunt for a plywood core or solid core, RUSTIC WOODS offers a great selection! Feel free to stop by and discuss your new project with the experts!
